XFP Modules: An XFP transceiver is a small form factor hot pluggable module designed for 10G network applications including 10Gig Ethernet, 10Gig SONET/SDH and 8 Gig fiber channel. XFP Modules use dual LC type fiber interfaces. The standard defining XFP modules is the XFP MSA (Multi Source Agreement), which was founded by some industry leading companies including Finisar, Tyco and JDSU. 10Gbase-SR XFP modules are used with OM3 50/125 laser optimized multimode fiber with max working span around 300 meters. The other three standards are all for single mode fiber applications: 10Gbase LR XFP modules transmitting at 1310nm support transmission distances up to 10km, 10Gbase-ER XFPs transmitting at 1550nm support transmission distances up to 40km, 10Gbase-LR XFPs, also 1550nm wavelength, support transmission distances up to 80km.
